Since the time Ethiopia has seen a new Prime Minister (Dr Abiyi Ahmed) in the name of EPRDF, whose acts are significantly departed from the principles and tradition of EPRDF, is trying to reform the military organization of the country. Is this reform consistent to the current interests and priorities of Ethiopian people?  Of course, reforms are necessary as long as it realize greater benefit to the people. Moreover, reforms can be initiated in various sectors, viz., agriculture, economic, technological, legal, military, etc. Despite the need to introduce reforms in various sectors, it demands examining the top priorities by considering the objective reality of a country. The current prevailing situation of the country reveals that significantly large number of people of Ethiopia are being displaced from their homes, sporadic ethnic driven conflicts are observed, peoples’ lives are being lost, and the peace and stability across many States of the country is disturbed at inexperienced ever frequency in the history of the country. At this time the strong need of Ethiopian people from the federal and State governments is to stabilize the country and maintain peace and order in the country, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want to feel safe and free in their day to day life which requires strengthening of forces such as the police organization and other complementary bodies that work for the common good of the people, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want the State and federal governments work cohesively for respecting the rule of law and controlling the lawbreaker individuals, hooligans and the like, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want the States get integrated economically and socially and improve their wellbeing with higher level of peace and security across the States, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want get out of the prevailing poverty by letting governments and all stakeholders focus on developmental schemes, programs and implementing it, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want to strengthen their internal unity and shut all loopholes for external intruders that attempt to disintegrate Ethiopia using different tactics, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the peoples of Ethiopia want peace and continue the rapid growth pace and reach middle income status by 2025, which ultimately blocks external forces that want to destabilize Ethiopia by giving seed moneys to those who are unable to fulfill their basic needs in order to involve in destructive and criminal acts, and the like, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia want to see the already laid paths of economic transformation are properly implemented which requires the existence of sustainable peace and stability in the country and see a truly transformed Ethiopia after few years, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia want to see our country being an attractive country for foreign investors which requires relentless effort from the State and the federal governments as well, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia want to breath in and out without any threat of insecurity and feeling of anxiety, plan about their future now and do all necessary preparations to realize their dreams, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia breadwinners want a peaceful life and engage with their day to day activities so that they are able to feed, and meet their daily basic necessities of their respective family members and themselves, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia want nation and nationalities’ language, culture and norms respecting each other and let the governments endeavor and support towards it, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; At this time the people of Ethiopia know what is their priority, no one can impose against their preferred top agendas and clearly understand that their priorities are those stated in above, not reforming the defence force in the name of strengthening Ethiopia’s position strategically in the horn of Africa; The military force personnel of Ethiopia is also part and parcel of the people of Ethiopia that they are not that much ignorant and robots that they will be twisted by a leadership that dictates them through the chain of command to act in a manner which is not Ethiopian peoples’ priorities. The military force personnel of Ethiopia as part and par cel of Ethiopian people should question, discuss, reach an agreement on all issues of reform within the military force in the name of transformation while the Ethiopian peoples’ current and actual priorities are ignored and other issues in the name of reform is commanded for execution. The military force personnel of Ethiopia as part and parcel of Ethiopian people should be keen to the overall security issues of the country, acts done by the current leadership of PM that deteriorate the moral and spirit of the military force, the trend that may expose the country to attacks by terrorists, and other external enemies that tirelessly work to disintegrate our country Ethiopia.
