THE PEOPLE OF TIGRAY CRY FOR HELP!

Collectively, humanity suffers from the sickness of amnesia. Incidents of genocide abound in history. Yet, perpetrators keep repeating the same crime against humanity and the response of the international community moves at glacial speed during which time the lives of so many innocent people perish. The genocide convention of 1948 followed the Holocaust of six million Jews by Nazi Germany. That should have been enough lesson for the world to respond expeditiously to any further incidents of genocide. No such luck! Instead, as recent as of March 18, 2021, FP reports, “ Biden Sends Senate Ally to Ethiopia to Address Tigray Conflict (foreignpolicy.com) Undoubtedly, the difference between the previous US administration and Joe Biden’s administration is night and day. But one has to ask, is there a measure of how many lives have to die, or young girls and women have to be raped, or children have to be starved to death, or massacres have to be inflicted, or how many people have to be driven out of their homes, their farms, their businesses, their workplace, or flee their country to become refugees before the international community responds not in diplomatic language or verbal threats but forcefully?

As Christiane Amanpour put it in her documentary on genocide, http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/scream.bloody.murder/

“We're always told that evil happens when good men do nothing. And the question -- my question as a reporter and as a witness to history is: Will we ever learn? Or will I or my children or my successors be reporting on this same kind of atrocity and inhumanity for years and years to come? This is what I don't understand about the human race. So thank goodness for the few good men and women who summon the courage to do something in the face of evil, to stand up and confront it. They give me hope.” Yes, at the moment hope is all we have for the US, UNSC, EU, and the international community at large,  to drive out the Eritrean and Amhara marauding armies out of Tigray, stop the ethnic cleansing of Tigrayans throughout Ethiopia, and call for a national dialogue of all political parties to craft the way forward for the country.
