This is in reference to Dr. Yohannes Abera’s recent article in Amharic which can be loosely translated as “People are tending to be back to their mind” that I found it very mature, farsighted, and above all educational. It is a common knowledge that some of the irresponsible and extremist elements both in the Amhara and Tigray communities are working day and night with the expectation of watching a battle and bloodshed between Amhara and Tigray brotherly people that has never been existed since the time immemorial. As Dr. Yohannes correctly put it, “the Tigray and Amhara people who are mainly subsistence farmers are extremely busy from one season to another season in developing their small fragmented land so as to feed their children under harsh natural conditions. As if the hundred thousands of human cost mainly from Tigray was not enough during the armed struggle, some extremists including some politicians on both sides are running here and there to incite violence and ultimately civil war between the two inseparable people of Tigray and Amhara. Fortunately, just as Dr. Yohannes observed, I had got the opportunity to witness on how people have started to regret on what happened in the last two-three years mainly on the relationship of the two brotherly people of Tigray and Amahara during my recent visit to Gonder. I also witnessed how neighbors and friends are still watching and take care of the properties of their Tegaru friends who fled to Tigray some two years back as the result of the unrest in Gonder. Most of the people are criticizing their regional government for not doing enough to bring back the Tegaru brothers back to Gonder. Other wise, I never heard any ill-feelings against Tegaru people since most of them are related either by marriage or being God father or God mother to their children, etc. It was after I saw all these realities on the ground that I became very optimistic that the Amhara and Tigray people will never be victims of those evil-minded extremists who are inciting further violence in the social Medias.
