Update: Tigrai Election and Allocation of 38 Seats
It is not without reason we always trust the TPLF to do the right thing. From the beginning, it is the only Ethiopian political organization that adjusts to reality and enjoys the full support of its people.
The overwhelmingly electoral win it got during the recently held election legally empowers the TPLF to govern the State for the next five years regardless. No question to ask here. But, the organization has decided to allocate over 50% of the extra 38 seats it won to
independent and non-party members.
The Tigrai parliament has also passed a law that allocates 15 non-voting seats among the minority parties that competed but did not win more than two seats. Today is a great day for Tigrai! Aigaforum Sep 24, 2020
Tigrai Parliament Elected Debretsion Gebremichael (Ph.D.) as President
TPLF, the governing party in Tigrai, which recently won a supermajority seat in Tigrai parliament, nominated its chairman as the next president of Tigrai. The parliament approved the nomination today(09/24/20) with a unanimous vote. Debretsion (Ph.D.) will continue as Tigrai's President for the next five years. The president will formally present his deputies in the coming months. As you all know, the government in Tigrai was lead by a deputy president rank. Not anymore!
The people of Tigrai are expecting a lot from the new president. Debretsion has to address the recurring issues with governance as well as navigate the failing relationship the state has with the soon to be an illegal government of Abiy Ahmed at Arat Kilo. Debretsion is also expected by many Tigrean elites to play a critical role in saving the federation if possible and if that is not possible for a peaceful separation. We wish the new president a successful and productive term.

ETHIOPIA:
CONTINUED DETENTIONS DESPITE BAIL ORDERS
(ADDIS ABABA) - Authorities should
promptly release Lidetu Ayalew and other detainees who have continued to be held in detention despite bail orders by courts, the Ethiopian Human Rights
Commission (EHRC) said.
We must say we are becoming a fun of Daniel Bekele. Maybe there is light at the end of a dark tunnel. Our Amhara elites need to wake up and call a spade a spade if their/our beloved Ethiopia is to be saved. Abiy is taking the country God knows where but certainly not to the promised land!!

Critical Time & A Defining Moment
Hagos Berhe 09-24-20 - We are now in the most critical time here in Ethiopia. The term of the ruling party; the former EPRDF & its descendant the PP, will cease after ten days. We are counting down to Meskerem 25, the due date in which the contract of the ruling party ends up with fear but not with hope. What is to come next or after that? Nobody knows perfectly what is going to happen ...
On Geoeconomics
Aesop 09/22/2020 - The currency change in Ethiopia raised a lot of hype. These hypes may be categorized into four (albeit misguided) huts. Some ridicule the spelling error in the 200-ETB note: "hunoreo". Others focus on the abuse of the currency change as a pretext to confiscate private savings by law enforcement agencies as approved by the PM. Some focus on the economic rationale for the currency change as a mechanism for bankrupting illicit commercial and financial activities.
Birtukan, OLF and Abiy.
Zeru Hagos Sep 21, 2020 - I have talked to many close friends over the last month. Almost everyone I talked to does not believe Abiy is an honest person. They also think Abiy will leave no stone unturned to keep his current power in Ethiopia. Nevertheless, all agree he must be removed from power. The easiest method to remove him would have been an election but he along with his enablers has postponed Ethiopia's election.
Knowing when to move on
Kiros Araya 09-21-20 - By all accounts, Tigray has accomplished its primary goal in the recent election by ensuring the most valued right of self determination. This will live for history no matter what! During the time leading up to the Election Day, one of the most repeated messages by all contesting political parties was - as long as Tigray conducts peaceful and orderly election, it matters less as to which party wins.
Tigrai TV - A CALL FOR PEACE AND NATIONAL SALIVATION from The Coalition of Ethiopia Federalist Unity
A Call for Peace and National Salvation
Sep 17, 2020 - Ethiopia is at the crossroads. It has only two choices. Either jump to the cliff or follow a peaceful path espoused by the of Ethiopian Federalist forces. There is no third choice.
Unboxing Modern Propaganda
Aesop 09/17/2020 - Modern propaganda is polarizing society and promoting extremism. Ethiopians are among the primary victims of modern propaganda. Political and religious extremist use social media to incite conflict by polarizing the masses. The dictatorial regime in Addis continues to fabricate inaccurate and misleading information to score political points. International actors who should be neutral issue incomplete or biased report on the country.
Political Violence Could Derail Ethiopia's Democratic Transition
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia-According to his wife, the late Gen. Seare Mekonnen, Ethiopia's former army chief of staff, was assassinated by a bodyguard shortly after 9 p.m. on June 22, 2019.If anybody knows what happened to the widely respected general that night, it is his widow, Tsige Alemayehu. But, for more than a year after the assassination, she was not asked to testify

Ethiopia files terror charges against Jawar Mohammed, others
(Aljazeera) September 19, 2020 - Ethiopia has filed terrorism charges against leading opposition leader Jawar Mohammed and other activists, a move that risks further inflaming tensions in the country's restive Oromia region..
All along, Abiy was determined to undo the EPRDF and all legal or otherwise opposition groups. Abiy thought little of the opposition camp. He told a trusted friend that he was going to cloud the difference between the EPRDF and the oppositions. That is why all diaspora oppositions and media personalities were invited to Ethiopia. Little by little he is succeeding. Today except for the TPLF, all EPRDF member organizations are gone. The proud Amhara people are left without political representation. Many of the opposition leaders are dispersed or languishing in prison - except Aregawi Berhe and Merrar Gudena
Even Jawar and Obbo Bekele, a respected man, are languishing in jail. Now that he has succeeded with his plan, he will hold a sham election and convince the international community he is an elected 'president'(?) He does not understand his days as a government head is approaching fast.
Harnessing Qeerroo Power
Assefa A. Lemu 09-18-20 - In this article, I would like to pick up the issue from where Dr. Mosisa left. The motto of our fathers which says "gabrummaahiddaanbuqqifna, yoodadhabneilmaanittiguddifna" (we shall uproot dominations; if we can't, our children will do it) is all about the relay and continuity of struggle and coordination of efforts in all spheres of life to build a better future.

Oromo: The nation in the continuous revolution
Assefa A. Lemu 09-14-20 - Ethiopia, with its present-day shape and borders, was createdby Emperor Menelik II who was born on August 17, 1844 in Ankober, North Shewa of the present Amhara State, and died in Addis Ababa (Finfinne) on December 12, 1913 and who was the emperor of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913. Tigrai Election and Allocation of 38 Seats
All:-
Many of you are surprised about the recent election results when it comes to the allocation of the 38 seats. To be fair there is nothing wrong with the allocation of seats if the rule is applied. What is confusing most of you is you assumed the seats will be exclusively left for the minority parties running in the election. It is unfortunate all the parties involved did not explain the allocation of seats to their supporters and the public at large.
We must tell you we asked the authorities how the 38 seats will be allocated right after we became aware of the amendment. The way they told us the math was simple and clear. We are dumbfounded why some of our elites and professionals are having a hard time believing the allocation. Is this the desired outcome? NO. Should anyone who can read and write have asked how the allocation of the 38 seats will be handled? Yes. It is shame some of us are playing dumb with this issue.
Having said this, we are sure the politicians and the governing party will address this issue so the democratic space is expanded. Let us give them time to find a legal way to allocate the seats or to bring the minority parties into the governing platform. The TPLF is a pragmatic party that adjusts to prevailing politics and reality without losing its sight of the goal - its principle to have a peaceful and prosperous nation. Remain positive and engaged. [Aigaforum Sep 20, 2020]
