The Final Push of Egypt to Secure Zero-Sum Water Share Agreement with a "Destabilized Ethiopia"!
Ermias Hailu December 6, 2019 - After Egypt's failure to integrate Eritrea to its territories by the end of the second world war, due to Emperor Haile Selassie's superior diplomatic skills, the then Egyptian Pan -Arab nationalistic President Nasser's government turned to ethnic and religious subversion against Ethiopia. In 1955 Egypt began working for the instigation of an "Arab" revolution in the then autonomous Ethiopian province Eritrea...

Why Ethiopia's Possible Economic 'Take off' is Off
Haile Kebret 12-7-19 - According to an old (Rostow 1960) stages of growth theory, economies pass through some identifiable stages of economic development. Regardless of one’s faith in the strict sequence and parameters of the theory, I argue that Ethiopia was approaching or at least putting the pre-requisites for what Rostow then called an economic take-off.

The Lonely Anocrat
Aesop 12-06-19 - There's a movie titled "Catch me if you can". It is based on a true story about a career con artist who finally ends up becoming an FBI agent (in real life). The chances of a con artist becoming part of law enforcement are very rare. But it happens-only after the criminal goes to jail, confesses his crime, and agrees to cooperate. Nobody wants to befriend a career con-artist-unless one happens to be a better catcher. So much for the ice breaker.

World Bank adopts $1 billion-plus annual China lending plan over US objections
The World Bank said its board on Thursday adopted a new plan to aid China with $1 billion to $1.5 billion in low-interest loans annually through June 2025. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who has argued China is too wealthy for such international aid. He pointed to China lending hundreds of billions of dollars of its own to poor countries through its Belt and Road infrastructure drive.

U.S. to Tap $60 Billion War Chest in Boon for Huawei Rivals
The U.S. has been warning other countries not to buy telecommunications gear from China's Huawei Technologies Co. and ZTE Corp. The government will soon put real money behind the effort. A new agency, called the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, plans to tap some of its $60 billion budget to help developing countries and businesses purchase equipment from other companies.
The former Ethiopian government's effort to create a matured market ready for a competitive free-market economy is about to pay off. The telecom sector in Ethiopia developed with a huge government investment is ready for a competition. If the current government plays it right, the competition between the US and Chinese firms could bring huge benefits to the country and people. Unless the current government has destroyed the company from within, over the last years, Ethio telecom should be ready to compete with any foreign companies.

Peace Prize winner avoids questions
The Norwegian Nobel Committee is grappling with some awkward challenges just days before the man they selected to win this year's Nobel Peace Prize arrives in Oslo. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has made it clear he won't attend any event where he could publicly be asked questions, either by the press or even children, and the committee finds that "highly problematic."

Wolaytta's Quest for Democracy, Self-determination and Statehood
Makonnen Tesfaye; December 3, 2019 - Wolaytta with its capital Wolaytta Sodo is one of the fifteen Zones in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR), the seventh biggest nationality in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) with a population, projectedon the 2007 CSA Census, of 2,473,190 in 2017. Other "estimates" are much higher. The "official" demographic data of the nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia needs to be read with a great deal of caveat...

Abiy's Western Orchestrated "Fake It Till You Make It" Political Crusade and Ethiopia's Disintegration
Yene Gasha 12-3-19 - It's official. EPRDF has been destroyed and Ethiopia is now for sale. Three of the four EPRDF parties have supposedly voted to merge under the Prosperity Party (PP). The old curmudgeon (TPFL), on the other hand, has rejected the union and has red-flagged EPRDF's dissolution as illegal. And, it appears, TPLF is not alone. Some high-level officials within PM Abiy's own OPD itself (like Lemma Megersa and TeybaHassen) are opposed to this unholy union.

Characterizing Neoliberalism: A Bird's Eye View on Ethiopia's Predicaments
Mogos Abraham, PhD Centre for Middle Eastern Studies 03 Dec. 2019 - Egotism, National Treason, and Ignorance: a Mix of Dangerous Behavioral Elements Egotism is dangerous. It is revealed through the practice of talking and thinking about oneself excessively, because of an undue sense of self-importance. If he is not fettered immediately, egoistic personality, treasonous behavior, ignorance, and illegal acts of...

Yohannes Gebresellasie (Ph.d) Addis Ababa 12-3-19 - Diversity does not simply add color; it does have scientific proof that it can also be a souse of wisdom, knowledge and innovation. Where there is diversity, there is new idea, new wisdom and new motivation based on the different cultural religious and linguistic backgrounds of different people.

Ethiopia to Keep Control of Its Banks as Other Sectors Open Up
Ethiopia is shaking up its economy by opening many industries to foreign investors. Just don't expect the government to loosen its grip on banks yet. "Banking, insurance, micro-credit and micro-saving services" will be reserved only for domestic investors, according to draft regulations released by the Ethiopian Investment Authority.

Climbing to Ethiopia's Church in the Sky (Abuna Yamata)
Lalibela: 11 churches, each sculpted out of a single block of stone 800 years ago
If faith is a mystery, there are few places in the Christian world where the mystery is deeper than in Lalibela. 800 years ago, an Ethiopian king ordered a new capital for Christians. At 8,000 feet, on the central plateau of Ethiopia stand 11 churches, each carved from a single, gigantic, block of stone. No bricks, no mortar, no concrete, no lumber, just rock sculpted into architecture.

Book Review: "Medemer", A Book by Dr. Abiy Ahmed (Part IV)
Assefa A. Lemu 12-1-19 - Part IV: "Medemer" and Foreign Relation
This is the final part of "Medemer" book review which has been provided in four parts. Nowadays, not only Medemer Philosophy but also the sale of Medemer Book became the project of the Government of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC), Ethiopian Embassies, and other Ethiopian Government institutions are busy implementing this project. As the saying goes, "the request of the king is tantamount to an order"and it seems that everyone...

The Chinese Builders Behind Africa's Construction Boom
Specialists from China are erecting massive buildings across Africa, including Ethiopia's new national soccer stadium. The workers must leave behind their families and move to faraway countries. But the money is hard to beat. The Adey Abeba Stadium, the roof of which will ultimately look like the shell of some primeval lizard, is one of the Chinese state-owned company's showcase projects. It is also busy erecting glamorous new headquarters for the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa and Africa's tallest skyscraper in Egypt.
We shall see how the hired footsoldiers of the neoliberals who hold power now will do compared to the revolutionary democrats. We are questioning if Ethiopia is a cursed country where its destiny is tied with poverty! How could the country fall apart like this? Sad.

Ethiopian Defense Minister Opposes Premier's Party Merger Plan
Bloomberg - Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is facing opposition from one of his closest allies in his proposal to merge the ruling coalition into a new party. Defense Minister Lemma Megersa said he disagrees with the rushed merger of political parties, according to an interview with the Voice of America. Lemma said he also opposes Abiy's new philosophy to unite the country, called "Medemer," directly translated as "to add."

Why is the 'Medemer" so-called philosophy detested by many people? Why is Abiy's Nobel win failing him to garner support and love that he desperately wishes? Abbo Lemma gave his seat so Abiy becomes a king fulfilling his mother's wishes for him. Yet, Lemma is not supporting Abiy! Can Abiy stay long in power with only Ferengi support? Tsetse flies love blue color
Mekonnen Teshome (Science Journalist) Mombasa, Kenya – (November, 2019): As Easter Africa scientists, long ago, have discovered that tsetse flies are too much attracted to blue-colored objects; they are now developing same color NGU traps to control the vectors that transmit Trypanosomosis both to cattle and humans.

Congratulations TPLF for the soft-bravery!
Yohannes Aberra, PhD 11-29-19 - I have clearly stated in one of my previous Aiga-Forum articles that TPLF is the name of the MISSION to deliver the people of Tigray from centuries of subjugation and lead them to a bright future as a peaceful and advanced Nation either as an autonomous part of Ethiopia or as an independent state, whichever becomes more feasible. TPLF membership and leadership is transitory; but TPLF...

Renewable Energy: Wind Farm Perspectives-The Case of Africa
Dr Yohannes Yihdego - This paper is on the push and choice for a greener and environmentally sustainable energy, particularly wind energy. A single wind turbine produces a limited amount of carbon emissions throughout its lifecycle. By taking a broader view, wind energy farms (or wind farms) have collectively a greater impact upon the environment and economy.

I Stand for My People - Northern California
The Northern California Tegaru community held a successful fundraising event on November 16, 2019. The community pledged to raise close to $130,000 of which most were collected during the event!
San Jose, California. November 24, 2019: The last three years have been the most difficult time for our people in Ethiopia, especially so for the people of Tigray. The government, the extremist opposition parties, and their media outlets have been blackmailing and blaming the people of Tigray for all real and perceived wrongdoings of the Ethiopian government. ...
