Ethiopia: Grim Realities and Vain Hopes
Aynalem Sebhatu 07-20-21 - Before the ascent of Abiy Ahmed in 2018, the Ethiopian economy had been performing at one of the highest growth rates of the world. The hopes of Ethiopians fighting the grinding poverty off their backs that once were associated with the country’s strong economy have long since plunged on the grim realities of the wars in Tigray, Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz and its agonizing consequences.
Is a coup in Ethiopia imminent?
Abiy Ahmed was once the toast of the international community. He was young, spoke the language of democracy, and was willing to reverse longtime policy to end the border conflict with Eritrea. In 2019, he took home the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. Today, he is a Nobel embarrassment.
Tigray: Time for the UN to Report on Attacks on Humanitarian
Facilities and Personnel
Since the outbreak of war in Tigray in November 2020,
the Government of Ethiopia and its coalition partners have persistently obstructed humanitarian
aid, pillaged and destroyed medical infrastructure and services, and incited violence against
humanitarian workers. These actions have been well documented and are clear violations of
international humanitarian law (IHL). Yet, the United Nations Security Council has failed to invoke resolution 2286
Ethiopia's Tigray war spills into neighbouring regions
The "very limited action" targeted special forces and militia fighters from Oromia region, Ethiopia's largest, who were massing along the Tigray-Afar border. "We took those actions to ensure those forces are sent back to Oromia, and we have managed to do that," Getachew said, adding that there were some casualties but he could not provide figures..
The Tigray-Amhara Boundary Should be Resolved by Constitutional Means
The ethno-federalism arrangement of Ethiopia established in 1991 created new regions in Ethiopia to replace the previous administrative provinces. One of them is the Amhara Regional State, which is composed of parts of former geographical administrative regions of Begemeder (Gonder), Wollo, North Showa, and Gojjam. Its creation has taken the dominant ethnic Amharas into consideration.

BTW, did we cross the path where we are expected to meet
when they descend, and we climb higher?
I think if the above recording is real, we may have just crossed the path. The Amhara president sounds like a defeated person. If TDF can chokehold the Djibouti line it will ensure the last nail is hammered on Derg 2.0 coffin !! Zeru Hagos July 17, 2021

From anxiety and sorrow to rest and relief!
Abiy Ichabod 07-18-21 - What could be more pleasing to the heart than the relief of the oppressed? This truth applies to all honest-hearted ones. God is always with the poor, the oppressed, the downtrodden, and the destitute. The atrocities committed against the people of Tigray during the past eight difficult months are horrific and mind-blowing.
Mr. Abiy's deceptive "Humanitarian Ceasefire" is officially over, now, before even being real.
Dr. Goitom Aregawi 07-18-21 - It is to be remembered that Ethiopia's government, after leaving Tigray by force of a bullet, said that it was "voluntarily withdrawing its army from Tigray" and was declaring a "Humanitarian ceasefire for the sake of the farmers in Tigray". These words might have deceived few unsuspecting individuals and parties inside the country and abroad, but people who closely followed Abiy's behavior, and the actions that followed won't.
They Spoke Tigrinya.
Paulos Irgau. 07-17-21 - Right after the iconic artist Hachalu Hundessa was killed, the newly appointed Mayor of Fin-Finne said to reporters that the alleged assailants spoke Tigrinya. What she had in mind and meant to say was in fact, they spoke the language of the enemy. The language of the sworn enemy. The language of the blood enemy. And it was a foregone conclusion that the owners of the language had to be eliminated and the project to carry out the assault was set for November 4, 2020.
'Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.' Samuel Johnson (1775)
Kalayu Abrha 07-17-21 - Samuel Johnson is a great British scholar of the 18th Century, who is a familiar figure in Ethiopia for his book "Raselas: The Prince of Abyssinia". The book was translated into Amharic by Sirak Hiruy. Although it was only at a certain political party level, unlike the government level in Ethiopia, what we are experiencing in Ethiopia most currently was also observed by Samuel Johnson in Britain two hundred fifty years ago.
Revisiting the Demands of Tigray for a Negotiated Ceasefire?
Haki Fanus 16.07.21 - The Tigray Government's first and foremost choice should always be to silence the guns and make peace with its arch enemies, so long as the minimum requirements are met by the offenders-such as ending the siege, arrests, murder, occupation and starving the people. A peaceful resolution of this dangerous human and security crisis would benefit all sides and humanity as it would stop further bloodshed, rescue millions of citizens from famine, restore law and order in the country
Eritrea: The Perversion of Exports
Aynalem Sebhatu 07-14-21 - I would like to begin by stating that Eritreans were inspired by the brisk economic development of countries like Singapore and Hong-Kong when they started drafting economic policy for their newly independent country. They sought various ways to revive the war-torn economy and they mainly based their strategy on export-led development, none of which had succeeded.
Talking past each other
Kalayu Abrha 07-14-21 - The English language idiomatic expression "talk past each other" means two persons are talking about the same subject but are saying different things. This happens when one of the two knows what the other is saying is the truth but has decided not to admit it. The resistance to accept the truth could arise from the sense of defeat that could logically follow admission of the truth.
'Purely ethnic profiling': New wave of Tigrayans detained
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) -Witnesses say thousands of Tigrayans are being detained and their businesses closed in cities across Ethiopia in a new wave of ethnic targeting by authorities over the eight-month conflict in the Tigray region.
US cites China, Myanmar, Ethiopia in genocide report
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Biden administration on Monday renewed genocide allegations against China for repression of Uyghur Muslims and other minorities in its northwest Xinjiang region. It also warned Eritrea, Ethiopia, Myanmar and South Sudan of possible further sanctions for ethnic cleansing in conflicts they are involved in.
How Local Guerrilla Fighters Routed Ethiopia's
SAMRE, Ethiopia - The Tigrayan fighters whooped, whistled and pointed excitedly to a puff of smoke in the sky, where an Ethiopian military cargo plane trundling over the village minutes earlier had been struck by a missile. Smoke turned to flames as the stricken aircraft broke in two and hurtled toward the ground. Later, in a stony field strewn with smoking wreckage, villagers picked through twisted metal
The New York Times is the record holder of all major news in the Western hemisphere. It is a respected newspaper. So much so it has a storyline in 1887 about Ras Alula Aba Nega the renowned Tigrayan General who defeated the Egyptians and Italians in late 1800. It is worth noting all the storylines the New York Times is publishing today about Tigray and TDF will be there for generations to come to enrich the history of Tigrayans much the same way Ras Alula's 1887 storyline has done over the years.

Open Letter and Petition to President Putin and the Government of the Russian Federation
We, concerned citizens and residents of the UK of Tigrayan Ethiopian origin, organized under Mekete Tigray UK, are writing to President Putin and the Government of the Russian Federation to protest against the Government' obstructionist role in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) regarding the crisis in Tigray,
Ethiopia, and its complicity in the genocidal acts, war crimes, and crime against humanity being committed against the people and nationality of Tigray by the regimes of Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, Isaias Afewerki of Eritrea, and the revanchist armies of the Amhara Regional Government.
Alert and a Call to the World Community: Rescue Tigrayan Civilians from an Open Ethnic Cleansing
Haki Ashenafi. 07-10-21 - After the decisive military defeat of the Abiy, Isaias, and Amhara forces have sustained in Tigray, the despotic regime in Addis, in collaboration with its partners in crime have blocked all routes to Tigray to starve the population to death. The federal and Amhara forces have also deliberately demolished the Tekeze bridge close to Mai-Tsebri. These criminals hindered humanitarian assistance to millions of Tigrayans by barring WFP trucks in the Afar and Amhara regions.
A Call from Tigrai Community/Association in Toronto
The people of Tigrai through their democratically elected president, Dr. Debretsion G/Michael have made an urgent appeal to the diaspora community for financial help. The aim is to raise 100 million dollars from the worldwide Tegaru diaspora in the coming month or two. The government of Tigrai as well as the Tigrai community board, are aware that, in the last 3 difficult years, aside from advocacy and diplomacy, members of our community have participated in many fund-raising events: such as Mekete#1, locust infestation control, displaced Tegaru in Djibouti, Sudan, Mekele, Shire, Waldiba... etc. Thank you all for your generosity, hard work, and resilience has shown especially in the past 8 months.
Eritreans: The Ball is in Your Court
Aynalem Sebhatu 07-09-21 - Isaias Afewerki's army was charioted into Tigray. The chariot of genocidal war is driven by two political horses: the Amhara elites and Abiy Ahmed. Once in Tigray, the army immediately steels itself for a genocidal war against the people of Tigray. The Isaias army has attacked, bombed, raped, looted, killed, and harassed innocent civilians wherever they were found. These unspeakable atrocities have been tested out on Eritreans for the last 30 years ...
SJT Open Letter to President Joseph R. Biden
Dear President Biden,
Security and Justice for Tigrayans (SJT) would like to sincerely appreciate the steps you and your administration have taken to date to end the genocidal war in Tigray which has subjected the people to unimaginable agony and misery. The people of Tigray and SJT owe you a debt of gratitude for firmly standing with the truth during this painful and challenging time.
UN Rights Body Needs to Act on Ethiopia
(HRW) 07-09-21 - As reports of grave rights abuses continue to emerge from the Tigray region of Ethiopia, the United Nations Human Rights Council is considering a resolution to add Tigray to its agenda. It should do so immediately.
Resurgent Tigray and Horn of Africa Politics
The war in Ethiopia's Tigray region just took an unexpected turn. Seemingly isolated in mountainous reaches of central Tigray only weeks ago, Tigrayan rebels last week overran regional capital Mekelle and other cities and towns they had left last November when federal troops moved in. They were met by dancing and cheering crowds.
One by one 'Kinzarebom ena diu zebele Wedi Haile- this requires a re-post. Crisisgroup was and is the number one agitator and sponsor of this war. They simply wanted to fulfil their prediction and sadly they succeeded. Now they are having hard time to finish the last chapter, thanks to the heroic Tigray people. Indeed kinazarebom ena! Ethiopia crisis - UN calls for a negotiated ceasefire to end the conflict
The conflict in Tigray has killed thousands of people and displaced more than 2 million.
Both sides have been accused of human rights violations. The United Nations has called for a negotiated ceasefire and a political solution to the conflict. And then there's this - allegations that the government of
Abiy Ahmed deliberately set out to isolate and starve the people of Tigray.
The dark tunnel we all have been going through may come to an end. Even China is calling Abiy for who he is. Surprised to read CCGTN to cover Tigray like this. Did they realize they were cajoling a small-time dictator with no vision of what so ever or the recent TDF military victory surprised them and forced them to re-think?
