Following the increasing number of criminal activities in Addis Ababa targeting its staff members, the African Union (AU) issued a security alert notice telling its employees to take extra precautions, The Reporter has learnt. In an alert issued last week via its security service department the AU said that, "There is a rising incident of crimes in Addis Ababa and caution should be exercised."
How do you carry a huge project of 'greening Addis' while such day time robbery is the norm in Addis? Shouldn't the Abiy government spend the huge cost of such project on real development where the youth and the destitute can be employed and shun risky and illegal activities?

Ethiopia: Stop harassing Eskinder Nega for his opinions
Police in Addis Ababa this morning prevented journalist and former Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience, Eskinder Nega, from holding a press conference to announce plans for his new TV station, Senai. Police officers blocked the entrance to the Hilton hotel turning journalists and other attendees away.
"Sometimes I really wonder what kind of people are behind Amnesty International(AI). What is clouding their judgment to miss the forest for the tree as they say when it comes to a human right violation in Ethiopia? Why is AI defending Eskinder only when there are many politically motivated prisoners and thousands of people killed every day in the country? Why is AI defending Eskinder but not the people of Gedo, Kimant and Gumuz who are mimed and killed by people close to the governing party? Why? Is Eskinder the only face of Ethiopia they have in a file? Just venting my anger and hope Aiga will post my comment along with the link.[Zeru Hagos June 7, 2019]"

KHARTOUM, Sudan - Ethiopia's prime minister urged "courage" as he met separately with Sudan's ruling generals and protest leaders on Friday in a bid to revive negotiations amid a crackdown on demonstrations that has killed more than 100 people since Monday.
[There are multiple social media messages one of the key civilian leader, Mohammed Ismet, who met PM Abiy Ahmed was detained today(6/7/19)!
All along we were wondering what Abiy's trip will do to his relationship with Isaias Afeworki of Eritrea who has shown interest to intervene in the crisis. Isaias has recently questioned the AU's policy on Sudan. As you all know Isaias Afeworki wants to be the regional leader even though he was told repeatedly NO! The arrest if true will certainly undermine Abiy's effort! Do you sense a tension between the two leaders developing?]
